Abstract

Studying the composition of urban space requires two basic things: identifying the elements of space and exploring the relationship between the components of space. When studying the quantitative analysis of the urban structure, a map of the axial lines of the selected study area should be found and configured to reach integrated and isolated spaces in the area. The quantitative analysis of the residential regions achieves distinction and knowledge of quiet spaces with high privacy and noisy spaces with less privacy. they must have a high percentage of isolated areas and a suitable environment for the residents. The study aims to find the urban form of the city of Basra by measuring the efficiency of the urban space comprehensively using the theory of urban space composition, by identifying two types of areas according to Heller (integrated spaces and isolated spaces) and identifying integrated and isolated spaces within the urban fabric to sign urban activities and perceive them easily. A person can move around the city easily and quickly. While the research problem was represented in the issue of the signature of these urban activities within the urban fabric, depending on the spatial characteristics of the fabric, and the ease of access to these activities, thus the theory of space composition is an effective tool for discovering urban space and giving different characteristics. The research hypothesis states that the spatial structure of spaces significantly impacts the relationship between urban spaces. The methodology relied on the Depth Map program for the study area and converted its descriptive data into a quantitative one through understanding the structure of urban space.
